LINDEN &045; The Lady Longhorns of Marengo Academy may have the youngest team in the AISA. They start the year off with one senior and not one junior. The Lady &8216;Horns’ are also small in numbers with a total of eight players on the team, including five sophomores.

Coach Ingram is returning his top three scorers from last years, which finished with a record of 9-13. Sophomore Christina Allen last season’s leading scorer at 12 points a game will lead the charge offensively for Marengo Academy. Also the lone senior Sydney Broadway, who averaged more than 10 points per game, will add to the mix as well.

The Lady Longhorns will take advantage of their size, which gives them a strong post presence.

Allen and Broadway will need to play well day in and day out in order for Marengo Academy to be successful this season. Coach Ingram’s starting five is a tough young bunch that’s getting better every day.

The Lady Longhorns will have their work cut out for them in area play this year. Last season’s 2A state champion Patrician Academy, who feature’s a 6’2&8221; post player, and last year’s 1A state champ formerly MMI, now Marion Schools, who return an all senior lineup, join Marengo in the area. Southern Academy is the fourth school that makes up the area.

The Lady Longhorns are winless in four tries thus far in this young season. They will participate in Southern Academy’s weekend tournament tonight and tomorrow before hosting Sparta on Monday.
