Local man arrested for robbery, kidnapping

DEMOPOLIS &045; Keith Johnson was arrested yesterday for robbery and kidnapping by the Demopolis Police Department.

Detective Sgt. Tim Soronen said that Johnson, 22, entered a residence of an elderly woman, tied up the occupant and took cash from the home before leaving the victim. He said that Johnson, who was doing yard work for his victim prior to the incident, told the lady personal background that helped police identify Johnson.

Soronen said that the personal background along with the description that the lady gave to the police helped them located the suspect. He said that they arrested Johnson within three blocks of the home of the victim on Country Club Drive.

After being identified, Johnson was charged with robbery and kidnapping. Soronen said that despite being bound to a chair by Johnson the victim was able to call 911 soon after he had left home.

Soronen said that the lady was checked out by an ambulance and she was unharmed by the incident. He also said that the amount of cash the victim reported stolen has been recovered.

Soronen said that Johnson is from Demopolis, but that at the time of his arrest he wouldn’t give officers an address for his residence.

Soronen said that Johnson was transferred to the Marengo County jail after his arrest where he will remain until he comes before a judge.
