Jerry Loftin swept his opponent enroute to a victory in the race for Marengo County Commission District Five.
Loftin ran on a Democratic ticket and carried the vote with a hefty lead.
He beat his opponent, J.K. Marlowe, who ran on a Republican ticket, with 78 percent of the vote.
Loftin victory continue the trend in Marengo county voting that elected a democrat to every ticket, with the exception of Rep. Champ Lyons who ran unopposed for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, place one.
With no incumbent in the race between Loftin and Marlowe, it appears that Loftin&8217;s previous experience as an elected official 16 years ago was enough to win voter support.
Loftin ended up with 1,132 votes compared to Marlowe&8217;s 314 to ensure his election.
Marlowe could not be reached for comment at time of press.
