Last week, a mother and father took the fall for their child as they allowed themselves to be arrested instead of their son.

On March 1, Christine Jones, 54, and Dee Jones Jr., 59, both of Marion, were arrested on charges of two counts of second-degree assault on a police officers and resisting arrest after coming to stop their son, whose name is being withheld, from being arrested.

“The officers made a traffic stop and enforced a K-9 unit which found marijuana in the car,” Marion police chief Jack Nelson said. “When the officer placed the subject under arrest, the parents came out and began to attack the officer.”

According to the arrest reports Christine, a 5-foot-six woman, approached the officer with keys between her fingers.

During the altercation, the couple’s son was able to flee the scene and has yet to be apprehended.

If arrested, the suspect faces charges of second-degree possession of marijuana and third-degree escape.

Marion police were also forced to respond to a “terrorist threat” at Francis Marion High School on March 1 when a teacher found a note saying there was a bomb in the room.

“It was just a note,” Nelson said. “I don’t know what they are going to do with the student that wrote it.”
