Local hosts Fashion Explosion

DEMOPOLIS &045; Designing clothes is what Viola Bernice Jackson has always dream of and today part of her dream will come true. Jackson will hold her first annual Fashion Explosion this evening at the Demopolis Civic Center.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. and feature clothes designed by Jackson, who is majoring in Apparel Merchandising and Design at Alabama A&M University. Jackson is a 2003 graduate of Demopolis High School and was the 2002 Homecoming Queen.
Jackson said the clothes featured at the event will exhibit style from urban jazz, eveningwear, spring wear and some throw back designs. She said she has over 700 designs and counting though she is only 22.
Jackson said she hopes to design clothes for celebrities and become one herself and created designs that will appeal to everyone’s everyday fashion style.
She said she plans to matriculate at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City in hopes of gaining more hands on experience to perfect her craft.
Jackson said that her position in the program was being a high-pressure seller and exhibiting the new fall lines of the designers. She said she has received the Mozell Davis Award at the university for being and outstanding student in her department.
Jackson said the she has continually been on the Honor Roll and Dean’s List at the university. She said she is excited to be able to showcase what she has learned for her community at home.
The Fashion Explosion will feature the Demopolis High School Step team and Chi Beta Psi. Jackson said a dance will follow the exhibit and admission to the event would be $5.
