Isabelle Marshall Knudsen

MARION &045; Isabelle Marshall Knudsen, 94, of Marion died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007 at Confederate Hall, her family’s residence in Marion, with burial at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 in the family lot in Mobile at Pine Crest Gardens.

Knudsen was a native of Mobile, but had been a resident of Marion for the past 13 year. She was the descendant of several early Alabama families. Knudsen was the daughter of Earl Blanchard Marshall and Belle Davis McKean and the widow of Mobile business executive Olaf Schavland Knudsen.

She was born on July 6, 1912 and was educated at Knott’s School for Girls and Wright’s Girls’ Preparatory School, where she graduated in 1929. As a young woman she acted in Mobile Little Theater plays and appeared as a model for charity events. In her career as a legal secretary she was with several leading Mobile law firms.

She was a supporter if the Historic Mobile Preservation Society and a member of the UMS-Wright Alumni Association, The Friends of Magnolia Cemetery and an honorary member of the Founders of Old Mobile Society. She attended Government Street Presbyterian Church in Mobile for over 50 years and was a member of Marion Presbyterian Church since 1993.

She is survived by her son, Marshall Schavland Knudsen of Marion; her daughters, Martha Ann Kavanaugh and Isabelle Lane Parker, both of Tuscaloosa; her sister, Earline Marshall Hancock of Gulf Shores; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Martin Snow

MARION &045; Evelyn Martin Snow, 84, of Marion died on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at Bibb Medical Center in Centreville, following a lengthy illness. Memorial services for Snow were held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at the Marion Presbyterian Church. Visitation with family members was held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007 at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel.

She was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Plantersville in Dallas County, the daughter of Dr. Thomas M. Martin and Stella Keahey Martin. She graduated from Dallas County High School and attended Auburn University.

She and her husband, Jack R. Snow settled in Perry County, where she was an active in her community. She was a member of Marion Presbyterian Church.

She lived in Auburn as well as Marion for several years, after her husband took an associate professorship at Auburn University.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Snow.

Her husband of 64 years; her daughters, Sandra Gillis of Baton Rouge, Rebecca Montgomery of Tuscaloosa, Anne Duraski of LaGrange, Ga., Lynn Hazelrig of Birmingham and Marsha Hinner of Jackson’s Gap, La.; her son, Richard Snow of New Orleans, La.; 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter survives her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Marion Perry County Library and the Music Fund of the Marion Presbyterian Church.
