GREENSBORO &045; It wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t the kind of basketball the Greensboro Lady Raiders are use to playing. They get the job done though, by beating the Choctaw County Lady Tigers, 48-36.
Greensboro started sluggish as they have started their last three games. They managed an 11-6 first quarter lead and followed that performance by scoring just six points in the second quarter. It didn’t look much like a team that is ranked number two in the state, as they went into the locker room at the half up 17-12.
Greensboro decided to show up in the third quarter as they put together a 23-point scoring route to all but put the game away. They led 40-23 after three quarters of play.
The Lady Tigers couldn’t overcome the 17-point deficit going onto the fourth quarter, as Greensboro walked away with a 48-36 win to advance to the area championship game against Sumter County on Monday evening.
Vanessa Rhodes played an all around game for Greensboro, as the Lady Tigers had trouble matching up to the size of the Lady Raiders. Brittany Skipper took care of the rebounding underneath and Rhodes was able to have her way in the lane.
Vanessa Rhodes scored a game high 22 points for the Lady Raiders. Kara Johnson recorded nine steals, nine points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Brittany Skipper grabbed a game high 16 rebounds and Shondrille Tabb pulled down 10 boards.
