A wreck on County Highway 10 near Sweet Water resulted in the death of Anthony R. Cowan and injured two passengers in another vehicle Saturday.

Marengo County Coroner Stuart Eatmon said Cowan, 40, of Union Springs, died as a result of head and neck trauma sustained during the wreck. State trooper John Reese said the individuals in the other vehicle, Janice L. Walker, 46, and Leslie Page, 12, were injured in the collision.

Reese said as Cowan tried to return to his lane the steering of his Ford Ranger appeared to have malfunctioned turning his car sideways. He said the oncoming vehicle &045; a Cadillac Escalade driven by Walker &045;struck the passenger side of the vehicle.

Eatmon said Cowan died on impact. Reese said the car Cowan was attempting to pass was not involved in the collision and the injuries to Walker and Page were not life threatening.
