DEMOPOLIS &045; There was a meeting yesterday for Marengo County Relay For Life team captains at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

The meeting was a forum for American Cancer Society Community Coordinator Alicia King to receive updates from teams about their progress for the annual event, as well as give team leaders information and materials to help them with their fund raising projects. King said leaders should go ahead and sign their teams up for the Relay on the Web site and encourage individual members to sign up as well.

King showed team leaders the Web site for the non-profit fundraising organization, which the group is encouraging participants to use. After registering, the Web site has a plethora of interactive materials, which King encouraged those involved with Relay to use.

King showed the team captains several teams and individuals for the Marengo Relay, who have already registered on the Web site. She showed those in attendance the availability of a fund raising tracker on the site and said it even setup e-mail accounts for those enrolled.

King said e-mail has become an effective fund raising tool since the group launched its Web site. She said it is also a great motivational tool because it allows participants to view the goals of others in the area and how much funds they have raised.

The Marengo County Relay for Life will be held May 11 at the Demopolis City Landing. King said the group hopes to surpass the $62,405.16 the Marengo County Relay raised last year after all expenses were reimbursed for the event during this year’s drive.
