Foul trouble foils Sunshine 60-55

MONTGOMERY &045; The Lady Tigers of Sunshine High couldn’t over come its early foul problems and it caught up with them late in the game, as they get eliminated by the Notasulga Lady Blue Devils, 60-55.
Sunshine freshman Shafontaye Myers, who scored a new career high of 39 points, played with three fouls from 7:07 of the second quarter. She fouled out in the fourth quarter with a little more than two minutes left in the game and with the score tied at 51. Notasulga took advantage would outscore the Lady Tigers 9-4 the rest of the way to seal the win.
It took Sunshine two and half minutes to get the jitters out to begin the game. They didn’t get its first points of the game until the 5:22 mark of the quarter, which were two free throws by Myers. The Lady Tigers loosen up in later part of quarter to tie the game at eight after one quarter.
Myers got hot in the second quarter, leading the Lady Tigers to a 20-point quarter to her team put the on top, scoring 13 points. Sunshine held a 28-25 lead at the half.
Notasulga started the third quarter with two players covering Myers, and would make up its three-point deficit to tie the game at 40.
Sunshine’s Shenquesha Carter picked up her fifth just before the end of the third quarter.
Both teams battled even for six minutes, playing to a 51-51 score until Myers received her fifth foul. The lone senior on the team, Courtney Lathem, would foul out a minute later.
Myers also pulled down eight boards for the night. Eighth grader Tia Scott grabbed seven rebounds. Lathem, who played her final game for Sunshine chipped in five points, four rebounds, and three assists.
The Lady Tigers ends its season with a 16-7 record.
