UWA baseball players receive honors for performance

BIRMINGHAM &8212; The No. 16 ranked University of West Alabama baseball team picked up two honors this week from the Gulf South Conference, as Rob Dahlberg was named GSC Eastern Division Player of the Week and Noel Baca garnered Pitcher of the Week accolades as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

Dahlberg, native of Gilbertown, captures his second career award. Last season&8217;s East Division Freshman of the Year accounted for 13 runs this week, hitting .500 in 20 at bats. The Gilbertown, native was instrumental in UWA&8217;s series victory at then-No. 18 West Florida, going a combined seven-for-11 with three RBIs and three runs as the Tigers took Friday&8217;s twin bill, 12-2 and 10-5, respectively.

Baca, an Albuquerque, N.M. native, nabs his first time honor this season helping UAW sweep the East Division awards. The senior shutdown UWF in Friday&8217;s opener, tossing seven innings while scattering four hits, one run and a walk in the Tigers 12-2 victory. The right-hander fanned eight Argos, holding UWF to a .167 batting average.

The Tiger duo becomes the fifth, GSC honors of recognition this season for UAW. Dahlberg becomes the second Player of the Week, joining Jake DeRoy, as Baca joins fellow hurlers R.J. Miller and Brandon Wheeler to garner the Pitcher of the Week laurels for the Tigers.

West Alabama returns to action on Wednesday, April 11, as the Tigers travel to Alabama-Huntsville for a 5 p.m. first pitch, non-conference contest against the Chargers. The game can be followed at athletics.UAW.edu via live stats.
