JEFFERSON &8212; The Jefferson Community Club will host its annual all you can eat barbecue from noon until 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Jefferson Community House.

The event has been going on for more than 50 years. It&8217;s a time of the year where the entire community comes together to ensure a successful get together.

&8220;This event means a lot to our community,&8221; said Lucretia Norris, former Jefferson Postmaster and the oldest member of the club, at 85 years old. &8220;It brings us together and it gives us a feeling of togetherness.&8221;

The members of the club are getting ready for the event of the year for the Jefferson community. Cooking preparation begins approximately three days before the day of feasting.

The members of the club donate all of the food and do all the cooking, as well. Rogers will make four to seven caramel cakes, 25 pounds of potato salad and two gallons of tea for the barbeque.

There is no chairperson for the affair rather it&8217;s an event where everyone pitches in whatever is needed according to Betty Bates, the deputy Chief of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department.

&8220;Certain people are assigned certain duties, but this thing is self perpetuation,&8221; said Bates. &8220;It works on its own and it works smooth as silk. Each year everyone knows what has to be done.&8221;

All the proceeds go to the Jefferson Community Club, which uses the funds to help

community, churches, fire department and expenses to maintain the community house.

&8220;The whole community works together on this,&8221; Bates said. &8220;It brings everybody together in the community to accomplish one goal; to raise funds for the community club, which goes to not only to helping the community club, but of someone who has a house fire, the club will donate money to help.&8221;

Tea and cake are included in the price of the barbecue meal. Tickets for adults are $7; children 12 and under are $4 and pre-school children eat for free.

The Jefferson Community House is located on Hwy. 28 in Jefferson. Just look for the big sign that says &8216;Jefferson Annual Barbeque.
