GREENVILLE &8212; The Demopolis High School softball team went unbeaten in its first day of play in the area tournament yesterday that will decide its playoff outlook.

Though the team is unbeaten in area play, the Lady Tigers had to face its rivals to decide which two teams would make the playoffs and which of the top two would host or travel. The Tigers came out strong, shutting out Wilcox and Dallas counties respectively in their first day of the two-day tournament.

In the groups first game against Wilcox County the Tigers came out bats blazing, as they beat the young group, 29-0. Nine player amassed hits as the group ran up the score in only five innings. Though they only batted in four of the five innings, the group hit in seven runs in the first, 12 in the second, four in the third and six in the fourth.

Of course the Lady Tiger pitching also played a hand in the overwhelming victory of Wilcox. Brandi McGee allowed the defense to breath easy as she pitched an astounding perfect game, recording 11 strikeouts.

In the team&8217;s second match up it faced Dallas County and again shut out its opponent on the way to an 8-0 win. The group had six players step up and record hits in the game that went all seven innings.

Unlike the first game, however, the Lady Tigers didn&8217;t get up big early. Rather the group, scored once in the third before a big inning in the fifth that allowed in five runs. It also got some icing on the cake in the sixth, where it got two more runs.

The two wins set the Lady Tigers atop the tournament&8217;s winner&8217;s bracket and sends the group to face the winner of the loser&8217;s. Browder said the team would either face either Greenville or Dallas County in the final game tomorrow depending on which wins out.
