The annual Marengo County Relay for Life will be held tonight. The event is the final salute for the fund-raising efforts of 2007. The event will be full of fun for all ages and will include a luminaria ceremony that will be dedicated to loved ones who have been touched by cancer.

Yesterday, event coordinators counted funds collected by this year&8217;s fundraising teams and tallied a total of $59,000. This is $4,000 shy of the groups&8217; goal and does not include all Relay teams collections. Larry St. John, with the American Cancer Society, said he is hoping to reach the desired goal through the activities during the Relay event. He said those proceeds combined with the total teams contributions should make the goal mark for the group.

With that said, the organization is asking for the communities support during the festivities this evening. There will be food for sale and games and activities for children during the event as well as luminarias that can purchased to help with the fundraising efforts.

The community has seen these teams hosting various fund-raisers throughout the year to help with this worthy cause and tonight is the Marengo County community&8217;s opportunity to support the teams that have given so much of themselves by attending the Relay pushing the group to their goal.
