Group leaders applauded

DEMOPOLIS &8212; The Lady Tigers met one more time as a team before the end of the school year. Putting away their gloves and cleats and donning dresses the team met at Mr. G&8217;s to receive accolades for their performance this season.
The group struggled early on with errors before getting a handle on defense and playing strong to win their area and make a fist round appearance in the playoffs. After a first round loss the group bounced back and beat American Christian Academy in an exhibition game the next week.
Browder announced the team&8217;s statistic season leaders and gave awards to the winners.
At the plate, junior Sara Davis received the season high batting average, at .369, and senior Stewart Gross recorded the most sacrifices on the season, with eight. Junior Brandi McGee received three awards for her performance for her at bats, recording the most hits, with 34, and tying with junior Morgan Patterson for most RBIs with 24.
Wrapping up the offensive production, junior Jasmine Simmons topped the team with 37 steals this year. On pitching production, Davis recorded the best ERA, with 2.38, and 139 Ks topped the list for strikeouts.
On the academic side of high school athletics, Browder awarded Davis and sophomore Katie Jennings for the team high GPAs, with 3.97.
The second half of the award ceremony consisted of awards voted on by members of the team. Gross and Davis were given the titles of Team Captain for the year and freshman Nicole Davis picked up the Most hustle honors.
Jasmine Simmons was awarded the Best Offensive Player, while Raven Simmons was tapped as Best Defensive Player. Davis was voted team MVP, while Emily Willingham picked up Most Improved for her development through the season. Courtney Willingham and Devon Latham, wrapped up the awards receiving Most Team Spirit.
Browder said the team will have optional summer practice starting on June 4. He also encouraged his team, all but one of which will be returning next season, to attend camps to work on their skills during the of season.
