Forest fires blaze throughout county

More than 40 acres of forestry land burned yesterday afternoon approximately two miles south of Magnolia on Alabama Highway 25 in Marengo County, resulting in the response of four volunteer fire departments, Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) agents, the Marengo County Sheriff&8217;s Department and additional back up units from surrounding counties.
Kyzar said three dozier units were brought in to assist with containing the burning acreage, including two units from Clarke County.
Kyzar said the fire was fully contained around 5:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
Kyzar said there were no structures in danger during this blaze.
Sweet Water Fire
The Alabama Forestry Commission, an AFC unit from Choctaw County and three volunteer fire departments also battled an outbreak of flames near Sweet Water yesterday afternoon. Approximately 30 acres of land was burned as a result of a downed power line, Kyzar said.
Kyzar said volunteers and the AFC are also protecting a nearby structure to the blazing fields, the St. Widfon Church.
