DEMOPOLIS &8212; In a continuing effort to grow membership and money, the Demopolis High School Tigers&8217; Quarterback Club is hosting a unique fundraising event on the weekend of Oct. 5-7.
The high school football booster club is sponsoring the Tigers&8217; Trail Ride at Alex Jones&8217; Camp, approximately six miles outside of Demopolis on U.S. Highway 80 west. The event will allow horse owners the opportunity to ride 13 miles of trails at the camp at the cost of a donation to the club.
Freeman said the ride is open to horse owners with both shoed and non-shoed horses, and he said the trail will even be wide enough for a horse and wagon should an individual like to take that route. He said there will also be access to water for the horses at the site.
Freeman said the 13-mile trek, which riders will set out on between 7 and 8 in the morning on Saturday, should lend itself to a four to six-hour ride. He said the riders will bring their own lunch for the trail portion of the event, but that there will be a dinner afterwards for the riders and anyone else who wishes to come and give a donation.
To foster the atmosphere further, Freeman said after dinner there will be some kind of entertainment provided, likely a band or a singer. He said there will also be opportunities for individuals wanting to enjoy the weekend at the camp without necessarily riding.
Freeman said the club hopes to raise approximately $4,000 to $5,000 over the course of the weekend from the donations received. He said all of the money raised will go toward helping provide for the football programs in the Demopolis School System.
