Panthers add passing game to resume for win

DIXONS MILLS &8212; The Marengo High School Panthers kept their winning streak alive in dramatic fashion Friday night, by providing J.F. Shields with a free offensive clinic.

The Panthers amassed 384 yards on the way to their 28-0 shut out of the visiting Shields squad. Marengo High School coach Scottie Jones attributed the win to opening both facets of the group&8217;s offense.

Jones&8217; team put up 149-yards passing, with sophomore quarterback James Bennett hitting five completions off of seven attempts for three touchdowns. The three trips to the end zone for the air were all off of catches from senior Hakeem Hildreth, who was responsible for 136 of the group&8217;s passing yards.

On the ground, the Panthers rushed for 235 yards lead by sophomore running back Michael Watkins. Watkins had 14 carries for 187 yards and a touchdown.

Defensive leaders for the team were Kaylos Pritchett, with 16 tackles and four sacks, Jeremy Bouler, with 12 tackles, and Quintin Watkins, with 10 tackles and four sacks.

Sophomore James Dumas also helped out the defense with two interceptions, with 42- and 70-yard returns.
