LINDEN &8212; Southern Academy showed why they are the No. 3 ranked Alabama Independent School Association team in the Alabama Sports Writer rankings and undefeated by dominating the 1-1 Longhorns on the way to a 42-0 win in a game that lasted under two hours, including halftime.

Cougar coach Shawn Bonds said his team&8217;s preparation coming into the game played a major role in the group&8217;s stellar performance. He said his team&8217;s line was also a large component of the win.

The Cougar line, along with the rest on the defense, put up an impressive hold of the Marengo Academy offense. The Longhorns had 3 total yards in the game &8212; one from rushing on 29 attempts and 2 yards passing after completing one of five attempted passes.

Southern Academy didn&8217;t have the same problem. The group racked up 359 total yards on the game, going 4-for-6 passing for 123 yards and a touchdown and rushing 27 times for 236 yards and five touchdowns.

The Cougars scored 35 points in the first half of the game before settling back during the second half. Matt Bouler opened the scoring with a 8-yard run to cap of a 69-yard drive. He found the end zone again for the second touchdown off a screen pass he busted open for 65 yards on the first play after a Longhorn punt.

The Cougars mixed up on the third touchdown when Charlie Baltzell broke Bouler&8217;s streak with a 7-yard touchdown run, but Bouler got back on the board with the next score off an 18-yard run.

A pass from quarterback John Kynard to receiver Jason Foudren wrapped up the scoring in the first half and a 22-yard run from Heath Cleary in the third quarter wrapped up end zone visits for the game.

Matt Bouler led the Cougars rushing attack with 14 carries for 130 yards and three touchdowns. Thomas Weeks and Stephen Averette lead the team in tackles with seven apiece.
