William Bill Boyd Stevenson

MARIETTA, Ga. &8212; William &8220;Bill&8221; Boyd Stevenson, 73, of Marietta, Ga. died on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007. A memorial service will be held for Stevenson at 2 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Saint Philip United Methodist Church in Marietta.

The Rev. Danny Alexander will preside.

Stevenson, the youngest of three, was born in Uniontown, a small rural town in the heart of Alabama.

After graduating from high school, he attended Auburn University, and served in the US Air Force where he was stationed in France and enjoyed being a jet engine mechanic. Excited by the fast pace of computer technology, Stevenson entered the fledgling data processing field in the late 1950s, eventually becoming an accomplished programmer for Wesley Woods in 1970. He later retired from Wesley Woods in the early 90s due to declining health.

Stevenson was preceded in death by his father, Lamar Edward Stevenson Sr., mother, Mary Stevenson Kirk, brother, Lamar Edward Stevenson Jr., and his infant son, Richard Thomas Stevenson.

Stevenson is survived by his daughters, Donna Stevenson of Decatur and Nancy Stevenson of Smyrna, sons, David Stevenson and Paul E. Stevenson of Smyrna, one grandson, sister, Mary Sanderson of Uniontown, and ex-wife, Jean Stevenson of Marietta.

Stevenson&8217;s body was cremated.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wesley Woods long term care facility on Clifton Road in Atlanta and the Cremation Society of Georgia 404-355-7627.
