Player of the Week: Jesse Morgan

Marengo Academy doesn&8217;t lack effective ball carriers. In fact, the team&8217;s depth at the position ensures that the group has a running back for almost every defense they face.

In their homecoming game against Autauga Academy, the Longhorns rushing game shined brightly, racking up 417 of the teams 448 total yards in the game. The group had two rushers go for over 100 yards and others contribute to produce the potent ground attack that put the ball in the end zone and ran down the clock.

But one play in particular by Jesse Morgan, who ran for 134 yards on nine carries in the game, stood out from the rest and marked the turning point in the Longhorns&8217; homecoming match up. &8217;Horns&8217; coach Jesse Little noted the play when asked about the difference maker after an early on back-and-forth game:

The Generals threatened to take the early lead after driving the ball from their own 30 to the Marengo Academy 6-yard line, where they got a fresh set of downs to punch it in. When the defense held and the offense took the field Morgan found a gaping hole in the line and it was off to the races. After hitting the middle he worked his way outside, down the sideline and gave his team the momentum in what became a 34-8 Longhorn victory.
