ATLANTA &8212; What do you get when you throw Marion Military Institute&8217;s wrestlers on the matt with other wrestlers from NCAA Division 1 programs?
Three champions, two second places, a third place and four fourth places.
At least that is what happened when the Tigers from Marion traveled to Atlanta to compete in the Georgia Tech Open wrestling tournament. The tourney didn&8217;t have team scoring but if it had the Tigers, who finished in fifth place in the national tournament last year, were definitely in the running.
Two of the team&8217;s champions in their weight class at the open &8212; C.J. Hamilton (125 pounds) and James Brenowitz (235 pound) &8212; both beat out Division 1 wrestlers from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga for their titles.
Hazewinkle said the team not only finished fifth in the nation last year, but they also had two national champions and four All-Americans, some of whom are returning some of whom are not. He said the group looks to build on the success from last year&8217;s season and surpass the achievements of 2006-2007.
