THOMASTON &8212; Last year AL Johnson had a respectable season. The group went 13-7, and ended the year in the second round of the sub-state, one win short of heading to regionals.
This year expectations for the group might be a little higher on the campus of Amelia Love High School. While the group from last year lost four players, only one of those were a starter on the team that made it to the post season.
With the players returning to the team from last year, Jones said his group has size, as in height, which is above average for a 1A team. And while there is height, the players aren&8217;t heavy on their feet, which allows Jones&8217; group to pose a threat in the transition. And then there is the offense.
One such threat Jones is particularly happy to see back is a shooting guard out last season due to injuries, who has started for the Eagles since eighth grade. Such a balanced attack means the group can hurt opponents if they focus too much on guarding the lane or perimeter.
With that in mind, Jones has shifted his focus largely to bolstering the team&8217;s defense heading into the upcoming campaign.
The Eagles will kick off thier 2007-2008 campaign at home Thursday against Marengo High School.
