The Demopolis High School Lady Tigers started off their 2007-2008 campaign with a home win over Francis Marion, but head coach Tony Pittman said the group&8217;s 61-37 performance was not up to the level he feels his team can play.
The group came out and established a lead over Francis Marion in the first quarter, putting 13 points on the board to the Rams&8217; five. In the second quarter the Tigers again put up 13 points, allowing the Rams to put up eight.
The third quarter, after returning from the locker room, was where the Tigers shined. The group, following Jasmine Simmons&8217;s 12-point quarter, put up 20 points to Francis Marion&8217;s nine. The Rams put up their biggest quarter, and outscored the Tigers, in the fourth quarter of play, putting up 15 points to Demopolis&8217; 14.
The majority of the Tigers&8217; production for the entirety of the game came off of turnovers resulting in fast breaks &8212; transition ball. The group struggled at times blocking out on both sides of the court, which lead to low rebounding numbers, but half court pressure and traps produced several turnovers to make up for the difference.
Simmons lead the Tigers in scoring, putting up 20 points in the game, but the team effort for the win saw five other players put more than five points on the board, though no others hit double digits.
For Francis Marion, the scoring was largely limited to a shooting trio, who put up 25 of the Rams&8217; 37 points. Adrienne Howze led the way with 10, followed by Serre Sawyer with nine and Verince Sawyer with six.
