Frances Spencer Jones

TUSCALOOSA &8212; Frances Spencer Jones, 83, of Greensboro, died Dec. 7, 2007, at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services are set for 4 p.m. on Sunday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

She was born April 11, 1924, in Birmingham to David Darden and Rachel Crawford Spencer. She was accountant for over 50 years, survived by her husband, William Earl Jones, to whom she was married for 57 years.

A daughter, Rachel Jones Parker, and her husband, Dennis, of Greensboro and one sister, Ella Louise Forrester and husband, Ease, of Greensboro, survive her. Her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren also survive her.

Jones was a lifelong supporter of the Southern Academy Cougars. She was a foundation board member. She and her husband, Earl, were recently honored as Grand Marshalls in the 2007 Homecoming Parade. Jones was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church since 1951. She served as youth director in the 50s, since then, Jones has served the church in every aspect from Sunday school teacher to various board chairwoman positions.

Active pallbearers were Travis Wilson, Jeff Wise, Andrew Wise, Adam Forrester, David Spencer, David Ryan, John Ryan and Joshua Ryan. Honorary pallbearers were Calliope Club Members and the Byers-Excelsior Sunday School Class Members.
