OUR OPINION: Holiday has new meaning for their families

The holidays are usually times in the year when families share meals together, exchange gifts and enjoy each other’s company.

We might not always get along, but usually we all have a good time making memories with our family. Sometimes, we can take the time we have with our family for granted.

For those who have family members in the military, they have a different perspective about holidays.

There are many other local families in this position.

They will have one empty chair at the dinner table. Their presents will remain unopened. The families have no guarantee that their soldiers will be coming home.

This Christmas, take time to consider visiting with a local family that will be missing someone.

Thank them for the service of our soldiers, their loved ones, fighting for our freedoms.
