DIXONS MILLS &045; For the sixth year in a row Dixons Mills will fill the streets for their &8220;Have a Holly Jolly Christmas&8221; parade on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Joyce White, who has helped coordinate the parade, said there will be approximately 15 floats and groups participating in the parade, including groups who have participated in the past, such as the JROTC from Butler.
With a 60 percent chance of rain on Saturday, White said she is hopeful the morning parade will still bring out a crowd.
The Splendid Harmony Social and Savings Club, which is an organization that meets monthly and helps to plan community projects, sponsors the parade. White, who is also a member of the organization, said they started the holiday event six years ago.
All the proceeds from the entry fees for the parade participants and the venders who set up with food and arts and crafts along the route will go to help support the Dixons Mills Volunteer Fire Department, White said.
The parade will begin its route past the fire station and turn on Marengo County Road 6. It will continue through Belmont Estates and onto Marengo County Road 10 and back up Highway 43.
After the parade, there will be activities and entertainment for the children at the fire station. There will also be a chance for children to have their pictures taken with Santa.
Although she has helped with the parade for many years, White said she spends most of her time fixing refreshments for the different groups who participate. Often, she does not even see the parade in its entirety, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying it.
