DEMOPOLIS &8212; When the Demopolis High School soccer team rolls into Tuscaloosa Friday night to play Hillcrest, it&8217;ll be just that.
A single team.
Due to lack of players this year, coach Peter Keen made the decision to go without a girls&8217; team.
With last year&8217;s graduation of five girls, Alyse Wommack, Melanie Cherry, Margaret Landerfelt, Megan Keen,
Molly and Abby Coplin, and Amber Walker there simply weren&8217;t enough girls to step in and fill the void.
Two girls, Amber Walker, Maria Brooker and Rachel Walker, have joined the boys&8217; team and are competing along side the males.
Also joining forces with the guys was Maria Brooker, who started Tuesday night as well.
Having two girls on the team hasn&8217;t changed anything about how or who they play.
According to Keen, the same teams who the boys played last year will be played this year such as Tuscaloosa County High School and Hillcrest High School.
Tuesday night&8217;s game against TCHS was a bit of a let down in the end.
Although they are coming off of a loss, the Tiger team is making adjustments to be fully prepared for Friday&8217;s 6 p.m. match up with Hillcrest.
With those adjustments, Keen said he feels confident in the abilities of his team to come out on top at Hillcrest.
