Marengo Historical Society hosts tag sale

DEMOPOLIS &8212; They say one man&8217;s trash is another man&8217;s treasure, and the members of the Marengo County Historical Society are hoping to find those treasure for their upcoming tag sale.

According to Kirk Brooker, a member of the society, the tag sale is one of the society&8217;s fundraisers for this year after having a successful sale several years ago.

Although they are looking for donations, Brooker said the event is not what you would call a yard sale, because they are more selective about the items they choose to sell. At the same time, however, he said potential donors should not automatically rule out items that could be of great value to others.

In addition to used items and antiques, the silent auction will be for services and new items, Brooker said. Some examples of items include babysitting services, condo stays or new electronics. Also, the society is a non-profit organization, and donations are tax deductible, Brooker said.

The tag sale will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27 with a presale, silent auction, and wine and cheese affair for Marengo County Historical Society members at a cost of $10 and non-members for $40. The event will take place at the Coplin Building at 209 E.

Washington St. in historic downtown Demopolis.

Although this special sneak peak at the items for the sale is encouraged for members, Brooker said the society is always looking for more members to join. But for those who are simply looking for great finds, the remainder of the tag sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 at the Coplin Building with no admission cost.
