Tigers defeat three teams

DEMOPOLIS &045;The Demopolis High School golf team finished at the front of the field Thursday when it hosted Monroe County, Excel and Thomasville in a four-school match.

The Tigers combined to shoot a 189, nine strokes better than their next closest competitor, Excel. Thomasville took third, shooting a 200 on the day while Monroe County rounded out the field with a 203.

Senior John Parten anchored the squad, finishing atop the pack with his 39 over nine holes. Sophomore Jordan Stone played the match as the Tigers’ No. 2, shooting a 49 on the day. Freshman Ben McCarter shot a 51 from the team’s third position while junior James Courtney stroked a 50.

It will take some work for the team to reach the level Black believes it needs to achieve before entering sectional play at season’s end.

His team will likely get another good look at the level of competition that frequents sectionals when it takes part in the Brookwood Tournament March 24.
