SPECIAL TO THE TIMES
MONTGOMERY &045; Ashley Stokes lead the way on the mound against 3A’s No. 4 team, Macon-East Montgomery Monday as Marengo Academy moved to 13-4 on the season with the 12-1 win. Stokes struck out seven, walked two and gave up two hits.
She also had two singles and one RBI in the contest. Macon East struggled to slow the Longhorns at the plate as MA racked up 13 hits in the game.
Chelsea Etheridge gave the Knights the first scare. With the bases loaded, she bounced one off of the fence resulting in a 2-RBI double. She also managed two singles in the game. Amber Walker, later bounced a pitch off the outfield fence to plate two runs.
A pitching change by the Knights proved to provide little aid as Brittany Black launched one over the centerfield fence to score Stokes and herself.
The Knights then made another pitching change, but still failed to hinder the Longhorn rally. Abbey Huckabee had one single, Kaleigh Robison had a double and a single while Libba Carroll had a single.
Athletic defensive plays in the outfield by Robison and Shelby Mathis helped to stave off Knight runs.
