GREENVILLE &8212; Greenville couldn&8217;t overcome a stellar pitching performance from Shelby Speegle as Demopolis won 5-0 on the road yesterday afternoon.

Speegle pitched a gem of a game for the Tigers, only giving up one hit and striking out 10 batters.

Speegle said this was one of the best games he&8217;s pitched all year and put it on par with his two-hit, 13-strikeout performance against Dallas County.

Speegle had a no-hitter going until the sixth inning, when Demarcus Robinson broke it up with a single.

The Tigers took the lead in the fifth inning when Ben Pettus reached base on an error, moved to third on a wild pitch, and was driven in by a Scott Cannon single. Speegle then came to the plate and drove Cannon home with a double.

In the seventh inning, it was again Speegle helping his own cause. Pettus drew a walk, and Cannon was hit by a pitch to put two men on base. Speegle then unloaded with a three-run blast to right-center field.

The game was also huge in terms of region play for both teams. Each has one loss in the area and Friday&8217;s double-header in Demopolis could very well decide the area championship.
