DEMOPOLIS &8212; Despite controlling the ball for most of the game, DHS was unable to capitalize, falling at home 4-2 to Hillcrest High Tuesday in the final match at Memorial Stadium this season.
Tyler Brooker connected on a cross to Rem Keen who finished off the play by finding the back of the net to account for one of two Tiger goals on the day. Rob Cooke beat the Hillcrest goalkeeper on a penalty kick to get the other.
Aside from their self-inflicted struggles, the Tigers continued to be plagued by what some characterize as inadequate officiating.
While he has found questionable calls frustrating throughout the season, the DHS coach emphasized his concern for the safety of the players when airing his grievances regarding the AHSAA&8217;s supplying of referees during Demopolis&8217; home matches this season.
The problems created by an undermanned officiating crew appear to evidence themselves again Tuesday as the Tigers&8217; sophomore goalie Racheal Walker was taken down twice on plays that drew the ire of her head coach.
The loss drops the team to 3-10 on the year. The squad will go on the road Friday to take on John Carroll before wrapping up their season a week later at Central High School.
