Our opinion: DCS officials take appropriate action in case

There has been much speculation throughout the community as to the happenings and outcome of recent charges of second-degree rape and enticing a child for immoral purposes filed against former Demopolis High School teacher and coach, Nathan Hallman.
Hallman originally submitted his resignation to Drs. Isaac Espy and L. Wayne Vickers. When the administrators presented the resignation to the school board, the
ultimately deciding authority in accepting resignations, the board opted not to accept the resignation. Instead, they terminated him. This was a smart move and the best move to make for the future of school children, because if Hallman is found guilty of the charges brought against him, his state license could be removed. Because of the board&8217;s cautious actions in the case, school systems throughout the state may be
protected.
We applaud the board for making the right decision in this case and setting an example of the type of integrity they expect from their faculty and staff as well as
protecting the future of our youth.
