Our Opinion: Reading program offers summertime outlet

The Demopolis Library will kick off their summer reading program June 2. The program offers an outlet for children, teens and adults to socialize as well as learn about various topics.
Reading programs are a staple of summer activities as much as vacation Bible school and snow cones. The programs are tremendous resources to continue educating students throughout the summer months. Reading comprehension is key to youth education and these programs help build this skill and prepare the students for the upcoming school year.
Summer reading programs, like the one at the Demopolis Public Library that includes all age groups, also provide an opportunity for family entertainment. The joint venture could provide a source of common activity for a family during the busy summer months.
We encourage residents of Demopolis to take part in the summer reading programs. Enroll your students and yourselves to encourage reading development and a little summer fun.
