LINDEN &8212; All 25 precincts in Marengo County will be open for elections Tuesday for positions for county commissioner, revenue commissioner, board of education and constable. Polls will remain open until 7 p.m.
According to Probate Judge Cindy Neilson, four positions &8212; County Commissioner for
district 2, Marengo County Revenue Commissioner, Marengo County Board of Education for district 4 and Constable of Myrtlewood &8212; are being sought by their incumbents.
Dr. Ken Tucker is running unopposed for district 2 county commissioner, as is Arthur Hopson, district 4 board of education. Bo Mc-Alpine is running unopposed for revenue commissioner, and Gary Bowles seeks the position of Constable of Myrtlewood without opposition.
The only position with multiple candidates is the seat of County Commissioner for district 4, which is currently occupied by Calvin Martin. Martin is also serving his first term as chairman of the commission.
The two other candidates for the position are George Baldwin and Wayne Leonard. Martin clinched the district 4 spot in 2004 with 50.25 percent of the vote in a run-off with then incumbent George Baldwin.
In the previous election in 2000, the final run-off was again between Martin and Baldwin, with Baldwin edging out Martin for the seat. In Baldwin&8217;s previous eight years with the commission, he served as chairman twice.
If Tuesday&8217;s election results in the need for a run-off, it will be held on July 15.
