DEMOPOLIS &8212;The Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the city&8217;s first Youth Golf Clinic beginning Thursday in an effort to bolster its youth programs and spread an affinity for the game.
The decision to offer the clinic is the result of the department&8217;s desire to promote the game to younger citizens.
The clinic, which will be held at The Ravine Golf Course each Thursday from June 12 through July 31, is available for children aged 3 to 12.
Amy Jones of Livingston, a certified LPGA instructor, will be working with the young golfers during the clinic.
She and her husband, a coach for the UWA baseball team, relocated to the area nearly two years ago. She has previously worked with youth clinics at Big Spring Country Club in Louisville, Ky.
Her goals seem in line with that of the parks and recreation department, who will look to emphasize etiquette as well as ability during the clinic.
The clinic will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.. for participants aged 3-5 and from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. for those ranging from 6-12 years old. The cost is $80 for the full eight weeks or $12 per individual session. Registration forms are available at The Ravine, City Hall and Omni Sports.
