DEMOPOLIS &8212; For the fifth time, students in Demopolis will get the chance to learn about theater first hand when the Missoula Children&8217;s Theater camp rolls into town next week.
The theater camp is done in conjunction with the Community Education summer enrichment camp, and director Barbara Hill said this week is always a memorable one for their summer camps. Last year, students performed &8220;Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs&8221; with the help of the Montana-based theater group.
The traveling company has come to Demopolis with the help of grant funds, and they bring with them all the costumes, props and people to make a show happen in just one week.
This year&8217;s show will be Hansel and Gretel, and auditions will be held at 9 a.m. on June 16 at the Demopolis High School auditorium. The remainder of the week will involve rehearsals and set construction for the final production, which will be held at 2:30 and 7 p.m. on June 20. Approximately 55 students will be selected for parts, and all of them will be assigned on June 16, Hill said.
The two actresses assisting with this year&8217;s program are Danielle Pap/t and Shawna Jean-Marie Smith. For both actresses, this will be their first time doing a Missoula Children&8217;s Theatre production.
Pap/t grew up in South Jersey and graduated from Catawba College with a bachelor&8217;s degree theatre arts. Smith was born and raised in Seattle, and is a 2008 graduate of Cornish College of the Arts with a bachelor&8217;s degree in theater.
