DEMOPOLIS &8212; It was a bittersweet final day for departing Public Safety Director Jeff Manuel.
Manuel, who is leaving to become police chief at the University of West Alabama in Livingston, worked his final day for the city on Friday.
There were no tears &8212; but the day had its share of emotion.
Manuel said he always has a single goal in mind when he takes on a position.
Manuel was slated for some personal time between his final day for the city and his start at UWA, but that may change.
Manuel leaves to acclamation from political allies and foes alike.
Williams and Manuel worked together on several projects before the sergeant was promoted.
In the past couple of weeks, the two men have worked even more closely together as Williams now takes the reins from Manuel.
Demopolis Fire Chief Ron Few spoke to the public safety director shortly before Manuel left on his final day.
Manuel, who served as chief since 1999, is looking at the next step in his professional career as an opportunity.
