DEMOPOLIS &8212; Community Education Director Barbara Hill can look back at a career that put smiles on the faces of hundreds &8212; possibly thousands &8212; of children in Demopolis.

Hill has tendered her resignation to Demopolis City Schools, ending a career that spanned 28 years. Since 1995, she handled the DCS community education program.

And that&8217;s a goal that Hill continues to help the school system achieve, even in retirement.

The school system is losing one of its most dedicated employees.

Hill&8217;s husband retired after the 2006-07 school year.

But with five grandchildren in Demopolis, Hill wanted to make sure no one thinks she is leaving.

Hill and Yancena Perry worked as the chief liaisons to area media through the community education program.

Those good things will continue this summer, with summer camp activities for community education&8217;s summer camp for students as well as student artwork displayed at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital through July, August and September.

And though she is retiring from her post, Hill hopes the community education program stays active and involved in the community.

Hill&8217;s last day is slated for July 3.
