Local teen killed in accident

FORKLAND &8212; Daniel Blake McCarter, 16, of Demopolis, died Saturday as a result of a car accident in Greene County. McCarter was a rising junior at Demopolis High School in the fall.

According to an accident report released by the State Trooper&8217;s Office, McCarter was traveling on County Road 41 Friday. Approximately 10 miles north of Forkland at 11:35 p.m., his vehicle ran off the road, overturned and ejected him from the driver&8217;s seat.

The report shows no one else was injured or involved in the crash and that McCarter was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

DHS principal Dr. Isaac Espy described McCarter as a young man who was making strides in the classroom and who showed promise for the future.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. Derrick Robertson will officiate and interment will follow in Demopolis Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his mother, Tina Marie Baker Cain, and her husband, Joseph Michael, &8220;Mike&8221; of Demopolis; his father, Charles McCarter Jr. of Forkland; two sisters, Shanna Marie Turner and her husband, Lee, of Griffin, Ga., Holly Danielle McCarter of Demopolis; one brother, Christopher Judson McCarter of Chalet, La.; grandmothers Esther McCarter of Forkland and Evelyn DeLoach of Lafe, Ark.; his nephews, David Aaron Overstreet, Lee Davenport Turner and Stephen Mnason Turner; his aunt, Susan Perkins and her husband, Mike, of Forkland; three cousins, Reid Short and Rhett Short, both of Forkland, and Heidi and her husband, Benjie, Alexander of Mobile.

Pallbearers will be Adam Mayton, Samuel Spence, Bill McCarter, Ben McCarter, Kenny Phillips, Tony Quarles Jr., Will Ayers and Chase Tutt.

Donations may be given in memory of Daniel to the National Wildlife Federation at 11100 Wildlife Center Drive; Reston, Va. 20190-5362.
