SWEET WATER — Rentz Simpkins Lewis Sr., 71, a cotton ginner and cattleman of Sweet Water, died Friday, July 18 at Southwest Alabama Medical Center. Funeral services were held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home 2 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008 with the Rev. Joel Jones officiating. Burial was at Paynes Chapel Cemetery in Dixons Mills. O’Bryant Chapel of Thomasville was is charge of arrangements.He was born Jan. 19, 1937 in Sweet Water. He was a member of Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church in Dixons Mills. He is survived by his wife, Alice M. Lewis, seven sons, Sim, Will, Bryan, Matt, Rube, Miler, and Allen Lewis, all of Sweet Water. He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Lewis Kerby of Demopolis, Mildred Lewis Cook of Montgomery, and 16 grandchildren.Pallbearers were his sons.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund.
