Residents of Demopolis will get a close-up view of the candidates for municipal government tonight at a candidate forum sponsored by the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce.
“At this point, we’re expecting all the candidates to attend,” chamber President Kelley Smith said.
The forum is at 6 p.m. at the Demopolis Civic Center.
The chamber accepted questions from the public for the candidates through 5 p.m., Aug. 9, so there will be no questions accepted from the floor during the event.
“This is the way we’ve handled the candidate forum for the past several times,” Smith said.
Candidates for city council will have three minutes to address the public, while mayoral candidates will have five minutes each to speak. After those speeches, the question-and-answer segments will begin.
“I’m looking forward to the forum because it’s a wonderful opportunity for the residents of Demopolis to hear all the candidates speak and make an informed choice,” Mayor Cecil P. Williamson said.
Challenger Mike Grayson said the forum is a good opportunity for residents to learn about the candidates.
“I’m looking forward to a spirited discussion where the issues of Demopolis and our visions and dreams for the city can be laid out,” Grayson said.
Allen Bishop will moderate the event. Bishop is a past chairman of the board of the chamber.
