Yesterday, I became an official member of the Rotary Club of Demopolis. I’m sure many of you are familiar with the organization but you may not be familiar with its mission. The local chapter contributes to our community in many way, however Rotary’s mission is very global.
There are more than 32,000 clubs and over 1.2 million members world-wide. The stated purpose of the organization is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
Rotary’s most notable current global project, PolioPlus, is contributing to the global eradication of polio. Other projects include student exchanges and scholarships. Many of the group’s missions are oriented to help children.
At the core of each club is a strong group of business and community leaders who do their best to solve the world’s problems one piece at a time. Whether that’s on the local level y providing college scholarships to local youth or it’s in the form of a monetary donation to Rotary internation to aid in the vaccine program in a third-world country, they are all worthy causes.
Time and money invested in Rotary and their efforts is an investment in the good things humanity has to offer.
