The Linden City Council adopted its budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year at its meeting on Tuesday.
The budget totals $2.012 million in revenues and $1.9 million in expenses. Some minor adjustments were made to the budget yesterday.
“We notified (the City Council) that Advance Disposal Inc., which is our garbage carrier, had to pass along a rate increase for the landfill,” said city administrator Cheryl C. Hall. “I was glad that it was only going to be an increase of 16 cents a month per household.”
The largest single item in the expenses was a $205,5000 payment on the bond issue, a 25-year, $3–million bond that was taken in 2001 to pave the city streets, renovate the airport and other civic improvements.
General government will receive $573,000, while the Linden Police Dept. will receive $415,9000, and the street department will receive $390,000. The sanitation department will receive $192,000, while civic improvements will take $110,000.
The city revenue will take in $580,000 from gross receipts sales tax, with $252,000 coming from business license fees.
The Linden City Council’s next meeting will be on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. at Linden City Hall.
