Support the March of Dimes Walk

Tomorrow, the March of Dimes will host its annual walk to raise money for its mission, which includes research into treating and preventing birth defects and premature births.
We encourage everyone to take part in the walk or make a donation to the March of Dimes through community director Jennifer Thomason, who can be found at the walk at the City Landing pavilion on Saturday or at the Robertson Banking Company downtown branch on weekdays.
While the weather forecast is calling for cooler temperatures on Saturday morning, it is also expected to be a sunny, cloudless day.
The walk will begin at the City Landing at 9 a.m., with walkers going down Main Avenue through downtown Demopolis, then back to the landing again. Registration for the walk begins at the landing pavilion at 8:30 a.m.
Every year, Demopolis citizens make donations in enormous quantities through the March of Dimes walk. Longtime residents can remember the yearly 12-mile walk that began downtown, crossed the footbridge on Main Avenue, went down Herbert Street to Jackson Street to the Demopolis Lock & Dam, back down Jackson through the Jackson Street cemetery and back to the City Park.
Tomorrow’s walk is considerably shorter, but the need is no less great. March of Dimes research affects several births each year and also works to prevent birth difficulties, including premature births.
We all want healthy babies. This is a way to help that cause, and maybe get in a little exercise to boot.
