POTW: Keith Junious

It has been a strong week for Demopolis High School soccer.
The team battled back to tie 6A Bryant Tuesday, Feb. 17 before picking up its first victory of the season Friday when it dropped Central-Tuscaloosa 1-0.
The Tigers then returned home Tuesday to drop American Christian Academy 5-0. There are any number of players who made major contributions to the squad’s efforts. Cameron Fendley put in four goals against ACA. Alan Brooker had a goal and a pair of assists over that stretch. Trent McDowell also had a pair of assists.
However, Player of the Week honors go to Keith Junious. The junior picked up an assist on a throw in last week when Brooker picked up a goal to tie Bryant.
Junious returned Friday to score the game’s lone goal when Demopolis prevailed over Central.
Then came Tuesday and Junious’ most impressive accomplishment. Playing through a groin injury, Junious rocked a goal with 33:21 to go in the first half, handing Demopolis a lead it never relenquished.
While his stats aren’t as eye-popping as some other players, Junious has been the Tigers’ most consistent offensive player during its current run of success.
Moreover, his grit and determination in playing – and playing well – despite an injury is indicative of the scrappy, wide-open performance the Tigers will need to continue to win in 2009.
