Kindergarten registration begins this week

Kindergarten registration at Westside Elementary School will be held on Thursday, March 26, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. for students whose last names begin from A through M and on Friday, March 27, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. for students whose last names begin with N through Z.
“Students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2009,” said WES principal Connie Brown. “They must bring with them a certified birth certificate — the original — along with an original Social Security card, a blue immunization form showing that their shots record is current, and two proofs of residency.
“They will go through a screening that takes about 20 to 30 minutes. There will be a vision and hearing screening. The Pilot Club will be here to fingerprint them for safety to have on file in their cumulative records. Students will also go through an assessment screening that is very age-appropriate. Our current kindergarten teachers will administer that assessment.
“We look forward to it!” she said. “We hope to have a big turnout so we’ll have a big kindergarten next year!”
Brown said that there are 166 registered kindergarteners this year at Westside Elementary. She added that if parents had a conflict with their assigned registration date, they may come on the other date. Otherwise, they should call the school.
