On Sunday, March 29, Demopolis High School will embark on its largest fund-raiser of the year.

Demopolis High School is hosting a Sunday dinner March 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Smokin’ Jack’s.

For $10 a plate, diners will be served half a smoked chicken, cole slaw, a choice of baked beans or macaroni and cheese, rolls and sweet tea. Those who purchase dinners may choose to eat in or take out.

“This is all part of Schoolfest,” said Demopolis City Schools Foundation director Jan McDonald, “which is the Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year.”

Schoolfest for Westside, U.S. Jones and Demopolis Middle will be held on Friday, May 1, at the schools. However, several years ago, Demopolis High School opted to go in a different direction with their fundraising.

“With the older students, sometimes field days just don’t work as well, so they decided to go with the plate dinners,” McDonald said. “Every penny will be put right back into the schools in the form of teacher grants.”

The Foundation has a high-water benchmark of $30,592.01 from 2007 – the most ever raised during Schoolfest.

Tickets are available at DHS or from any teacher or administrator at the high school, said Annie Robertson, chairman of Schoolfest events.

The school also plans to host a Powder Puff football game on Thursday, April 30, as part of Schoolfest.
