Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home hosted its first Black and White Ball on Saturday in its dining room.
Residents were encouraged to wear something black or white to give the ball a more formal feel.
Refreshments included fruit topped with whipped cream, punch and other beverages. The dining room was lined with black and white balloons along with other ballroom decorations.
“This is our first annual Black and White Ball,” said Woodhaven activities director Mattie Bryant. “Everybody was pretty excited about it. We plan on making this an annual thing.”
Participants enjoyed a wide variety of music from earlier times.
“We’ve got all kinds of music!” Bryant said. “We’ve got country, jazz, blues — just about everything.”
Bryant said a number of people and businesses donated to the Black and White Ball as well as hospices.
“We want to thank the people who helped to set this up and serve,” she said. “We want to thank the hospice and the families for coming out and helping make this a success.”
With a ballroom filled to capacity, the success of the inaugural Black and White Ball was huge, and should be a popular event for years to come.
